Summer 2009

  • OSU ASL Lecture Series, Summer Term Two: Thursday, July 30th 4:00-5:00PM

    Jim Crane will be presenting "Deaf in a Mainstreamed School: My Experiences". Jim is a graduate of Bexley High School and, recently, of Gallaudet University. Presentation and Q&A session will be in ASL with interpreting services provided. This event is free and open to the public. Lecture is on Ohio State's campus in Hagerty Hall room 180. Parking is available in the Ohio Union garage across the street.
     

  • OSU ASL Lecture Series, Summer Term One: Thursday, July 9th 7:30-8:30PM
    Lisette Tedeschi will be presenting "Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students: Behind the Scenes in a Mainstream Setting" .  Presentation in ASL with interpreting provided. Free and open to the public. Lecture is in Hagerty Hall 180, OSU campus.

  • ASL Social Night hosted by the Ohio chapter of American Sign Language Teachers Association.  Fridays, June 5, July 10, August 7, and September 11 starting around 7:00PM. At Gordy's, 6150 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville. Contact OhioASLTA@aol.com.  
     

Spring 2009

  • Lecture Series: Spring Quarter 2009: April 14th 4:00-5:00PM & April 16th  7:30-8:30PM Hagerty Hall 180, OSU campus. Presentation in ASL with interpreting services provided.  Bryan Grubb, a deaf-blind invidivual from the local community will give a presentation about his life experiences. Free and open to the public.
     
  • Special Guest Lecture by Dr. Davila, Gallaudet University President
    May 8th, 11:00-noon. “Challenges Facing Higher Education for the Deaf"
    OSU campus, Mendenhall Laboratory room 100. Free and open to the public.  Interpreting services provided by OSU ADA Coordinator's Office.  Sponosored in collaboration by Deaf Initiatives, the OSU ASL Program, and the OSU College of Arts and Humanities,  Office of Univeristy Development.  For more information, contact Lauren Sanders at sanders.67@osu.edu. 
  • Annual Silent Picnic: May 20th 5:30-7:30PM at the Whetstone Park of Roses. Students, teachers, interpreters, and members of the deaf community gather for a BBQ, to play games, and to socialize using ASL. For more information, contact Emily LeGros at legros.8@osu.edu.
       
  • Film screening & panel discussion: May 27th 3:30-5:30PM at the Ohio State University, Jennings Hall, room 155. This event is sponsored by OSU's Office of Disability Services/Student Life. Excerpts of the documentary film Through Deaf Eyes will be shown followed by a discussion with a panel of OSU students who are deaf.  Interpreting services and refreshments provided.
