ASL Level 4 (students may choose either 104 or 114 regardless of the course taken at level 3)
American Sign Language (ASL) IV is designed to build upon the signing information and concepts to which students have been exposed in ASL III or its equivalence. Students will continue to improve their receptive and expressive skills in the use of American Sign Language. Students will also be exposed to topics related to deafness and education, for example,equity and diversity issues; historical and emerging perspectives on the condition of deafness, and culture and identity of deaf/Deaf individuals.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to demonstrate:
- Increased knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical structures.
- Increased use of ASL for everyday conversations with various members of the deaf/Deaf community.
- Understanding of significant people and events in Deaf History and their influence on today's American Deaf Community.
- Understanding of ASL Literature, including poetry, narratives, folktales, and jokes.
- Ability to create and/or sign pieces of ASL Literature.
