Transfer Credit

For questions regarding transfer credit, contact the transfer credit coordinator, Lauren Sanders, at sanders.67@osu.edu or (614) 292-7082.

What is the first step in the transfer credit process?
You will need to send your transcript to the University Registrar. And, of course, you will need to enroll at Ohio State before you can register for classes.

I have taken ASL classes at another college or university. Will my credits transfer to Ohio State?
This depends on where you have taken your coursework. Evaluation is based on course credit hours, course content, and the grade earned (C or above required).  Many ASL courses at colleges throughout Ohio have already been approved for automatic transfer to Ohio State ASL courses.  This information is available online at the u.select website.

My credits will not automatically transfer. Now what do I do?
You will need to prepare the following information to submit to the program coordinator for ASL course evaluation.

  • Your full name and osu.#
  • College/university name and campus
  • Previous school on semester or quarter system
  • Course title, number, and credit hours
  • Course syllabus - including texts and assignments

What text is used in OSU's ASL classes?

We currently use the text Master ASL! by Jason E. Zinza.  It is available for purchase at OSU bookstores or through the publisher at www.signmedia.com or 1-800-475-4756.

Master ASL!  includes a hardcover text, a workbook, and a DVD.  This set is required and is used for all levels of ASL 1-4.  The units in the book are currently taught in the following sequence:

ASL 1=Units 1, 2, 3
ASL 2=Units 4, 5
ASL 3=Units 6,7,8
ASL 4=Units 9, 10

What can I expect in OSU's ASL classes?

  • Our classes are capped at 24 students to ensure quality interaction with your classmates and your instructor.
  • Our classes are taught primarily in the target language and require that all students adhere to the "voices off" policy.
  • Our classes require attendance and participation in every class meeting.
  • Our classes require attendance and participation in deaf community events.
  • Our classes provide a safe and positive learning environment for our students.
