Education
- BS, Physical Education with emphasis in Teaching, Gallaudet University
J.J. has taught ASL classes through Ohio School for the Deaf, Columbus Speech and Hearing Center, Rocky Mountain Deaf School, and other organizations and camp programs. In addition, he has supported Columbus State Community College in developing their ITP Curriculum with signing video production. He is also one of the founding members and camp director of OYO Camp, a camp for Deaf Ohio youth.
While part of the Personal Discovery Program at Gallaudet University, J.J. traveled to Russia, Haiti, and the Window Rock Navajo Reservation in Arizona to provide team development workshops in a combination of ASL and International Sign. These experiences have led to other international volunteering opportunities such as Clin d’Oeil in Reims, France, a world-renowned Deaf arts festival.
In Colorado, J.J. participated in Deaf Interpreter training and development and began his interpreting career. Notable experiences include interpreting at the Colorado RID conference, presenting about Deaf culture at the United States Air Force Academy, and providing access at press conferences by the mayor of Denver.
In his free time, J.J. enjoys hiking, camping, rock climbing, bicycling, playing capoeira, farming, spending time with his growing family and taking their cat out on their adventures.
