ASL Resources at Ohio State
As of Autumn 2024, the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Ohio State recognizes students in Ohio who have earned the SoBL during high school. Students will qualify for a waiver of the lower language sequence (ASL 1101-1103) and will not be required to take a language placement test. Credit hours are not awarded for the SoBL.
Students with a SoBL from any other U.S. state should send their official test score report to cllc@osu.edu for review. Out-of-state seals will only be recognized if test scores achieved meet Ohio SoBL requirements.
Although students with the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy are not required to take additional/upper-level ASL courses to satisfy their graduation requirements, only four additional courses are required to earn a minor in ASL Studies. Once the SoBL is processed by the university Registrar, students may enroll in ASL 2104.
Please contact cllc@osu.edu for more information.
Note: Students with a SoBL from any other U.S. state may qualify for a waiver with the criteria being that they must satisfy the rigorous requirements already established by the Ohio Board of Education for the Ohio SoBL.
